Bi-Stable Vortex Fume Safety Cabinet
VFVTM
Fume Hood Control Makes VAV
Obsolete
(Contd.)
The baffle acts similar
to an air supply diffuser. If the supply diffuser's jet slot streams
become turbulent, the diffuser fails to function and dumps. To the
hood, sash movement can be bi-stable vortex baffle controlled constantly
readjusts the slot jet velocities to the varying vortex chamber
size to prevent dumping, which is what fume hood users call a spill.
The bi-stable
vortex fume hood, using VFVTM
hood controls requires 70% less energy than the conventional mono-stable
vortex hood, but dramatically improves fume hood performance. The
fume hood can operate with down drafts as high as 100 FPM versus
the mono-stable vortex hood that can barely withstand 20 FPM cross
drafts.
The unique multi-slotted
internal airfoil enables heavier than air gases to be entrained
within the bi-stable vortex for improved performance. Even when
the sash is closed on the constant volume exhaust hood, the internal
multi-airfoil slots produce non-turbulent, laminar jet streams
to improve fume hood clearing action. The multi-slotted airfoil
also serves as a bypass when the sash is closed to maintain constant
airflow volume.
